How to Set Up Your Canvas Observer Account on the Canvas Parent Mobile App

This guide provides essential steps for setting up your Canvas Observer account on the Canvas Parent Mobile App, ensuring you can effectively monitor your child's academic progress.

⚠️ Important Note for Olathe Public Schools Teachers and Staff: If you currently use your OPS email address for your child's school communications, you will need to contact their school and change your email address to a personal email. Canvas Teacher and Observer accounts cannot use the same email address.

ℹ️ Recommendation: Due to the limited functionality of the Canvas Parent Mobile App, we recommend accessing Canvas on a web browser whenever possible for full functionality.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Open the App Store Open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your mobile device.

Install and Open the App Search for "Canvas Parent", install, and open the app once installation completes.

Find Your School On the main app screen, tap the blue Find my school button.

Select District Parent Portal Type "Olathe" or "Olathe Public Schools" into the search bar, then tap Olathe Public Schools - Parents from the list.
1. NOTE: Do NOT search for your child's school, you must search for "Olathe Public Schools".

Click Forgot Password? On the Canvas login screen, tap Forgot Password? located beneath the Log In button.

Request Password Reset Enter the email address associated with your child's school records, then tap Request Password.

Confirm Request Sent Once you see the confirmation screen indicating your request has been sent, tap Back to Login.

Set New Password via Email Navigate to your email app, open the password reset email from Instructure Canvas, and tap "Click here to set a new password" to create your password and finalize your login.
